What it does

Ring'X is an original multi-effect from XILS-lab rather than a model of hardware: six effect slots arranged in an 'Effect Ring', driven by sequencers and by followers that react to the incoming audio. The developer calls it an "inspiring and musical multi-effects plug-in."

The current version is 1.0.1. A full-featured 15-day demo licence is available.

When to use it

Ring'X is the pick when you want effects that react to the audio as well as to a sequence. Compared with Effectrix2, it is less of a beat-slicing performance tool and more of a modulated effect chain, with followers that let the level, transients or gating of a part drive the filters and delays. Compared with Infiltrator 2 and Multipass, its routing is simpler: a fixed ring of six slots and eight effects instead of a large modular rack. Its two modelled synth filters, from the Synthex and the VCS3, give it a more analog character than most sequenced multi-effects. It is also much cheaper than any of those when on sale.
