Bangkok Ping Pong is a free filtered ping-pong delay from Witch Pig.

A balance control sets the starting side, delay time is in seconds or synced to tempo, and an LFO sweeps a filter on the repeats.

Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Vocals. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: ping-pong, free, vocals, electric guitar, keys, synths, wide, mixing, organic, swirling, tempo-synced, visual feedback, warm.

What it does

Bangkok Ping Pong is a free stereo delay from Witch Pig that bounces repeats between left and right and runs them through a modulated filter. The sweeping filter works like an auto-wah on the echoes, so each repeat shifts in tone instead of simply fading.

Balance: sets which side the first delay starts on; set it to 0.5 to centre the repeats and remove the ping-pong.
Delay and Sync: set the repeat time in seconds, or press Sync to lock it to note divisions of the DAW tempo.
Feedback: sets how many repeats you get.
Filter: a band-pass style filter on the repeats that moves across the spectrum, giving the auto-wah effect.
LFO: sets the width of the filtering applied to the repeats.
Frequency: sets how fast the filter modulates.
Interface: a small, single-page layout with an animated display.

Version 1.0 is free. It is downloaded from the developer's website.

When to use it

Bangkok Ping Pong is the better pick when you want a free, instant ping-pong echo with built-in movement and don't need to tweak much. Compared with Timeless 3 or ValhallaDelay, it has no tape or analog modes, no modulation routing and only a handful of controls, but the filter sweep gives repeats character with almost no setup. Unlike EchoBoy's Ping-Pong mode, it has no saturation styles or groove controls; its one trick is the auto-wah on the repeats. It is also free, where those cost money.

Best for: stereo echoes with filter movement on guitars, synths, keys and vocals, and surf or psychedelic textures.
Genres: psychedelic, indie, lo-fi and electronic.
Look elsewhere if: you need detailed delay shaping, tape character or long modulated tails; Timeless 3, ValhallaDelay or EchoBoy do more.
Tip: slow the Frequency and narrow the LFO width for a subtle drift, or push both for a strong wah on every repeat.

What producers say

Free-plugin coverage was warm, singling out the auto-wah repeats as what lifts it above a plain ping-pong delay.

Bedroom Producers Blog said the tonal variation "is enough to make an average sound more interesting" and that it can be "a hugely transformative tool".
Gearnews liked its "organic and lively sound", said it "simply sounds right" for surf or psychedelic textures, and called it very immediate.
KVR users one review so far, rating it 5 out of 5.
