Spectre by Wavesfactory

Spectre combines a sonic enhancer with a five-band graphical EQ, adding saturation only to the parts of the spectrum you boost.

Each band can use one of ten saturation algorithms on stereo, left, right, mid or side, with up to 16x oversampling.

Best for: Vocals, Bass, Drums, Mix Bus, Mastering. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: enhancement, oversampling, bass, full mix, subtle, vocals, mastering, metering, multi-band, parallel processing, rectifying, tube, wide, aggressive, beginner-friendly, bright, bus processing, clean, drums, mid/side, mix bus, mixing, organic, simple, snare, tape, warm.

What it does

Spectre "combines the best features of a sonic enhancer and a graphical parametric EQ." It runs the signal through a five-band parallel EQ, takes the difference from the dry signal, and saturates each band, so you "use it like an EQ, get better results."

When to use it

Pick Spectre when you think in EQ terms and want to add harmonics to specific frequency areas, including mid/side widening. It is less deep than FabFilter Saturn 2, a multiband distortion with modulation, and offers more choices of color than classic enhancers such as Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter and Softube Weiss Exciter.

What producers say

Magazines and users have been positive, with minor requests about metering and M/S handling in early versions.
