What it does
V-Comp is a model of the Neve 2254 hardware compressor.
- Hardware model: based on the 2254's diode-bridge design, including its transformer sound.
- Original behaviour: keeps the time constants and fixed nominal output gain of the unit.
- Bus sound: aimed at the "lush buss sound" of the original.
It's included in the Waves Essential and Waves Ultimate subscriptions.
When to use it
A vintage-flavoured bus and track compressor with fixed time constants, so it's quick to use but less flexible than FabFilter Pro-C 3. Compared with the rated SSL G-Master Buss Compressor (also from Waves), it offers a Neve-style tone in place of the SSL sound.
- Best for: drum buses, mix bus and full mixes where you want a coloured compressor.
- Genres: rock, pop and R&B mixes.
