XTT is a 5-band multiband compressor designed by VINAI with W.A. Production, doing both upward and downward compression in each band.

It adds per-band Mid/Side and RMS controls, a global Time dial, a Mix control and a built-in brickwall limiter, for $39.90.

What it does

XTT is a five-band multiband compressor for mixing and mastering, built by W.A. Production with the DJ and producer duo VINAI. It runs upward and downward compression at the same time, and its design leans on gain staging, which the developer calls "a really important factor".

Five bands: low, low-mid, mid, mid-high and high, with adjustable crossovers, and threshold, makeup gain, solo and mute per band.
Upward and downward: each direction can be pushed independently up to 200%, and both can run at once.
Per-band shaping: RMS, attack and release controls, and a Mid/Side tilt for each band.
Time dial: scales attack and release across all bands at once.
Gain staging: linked input and output faders with meters, to keep levels sensible before and after processing.
Output stage: a Mix control for parallel compression and a transparent brickwall limiter with an adjustable Boost.
Display: a real-time frequency analyzer behind the bands, and click-free bypass.

The current version is 1.1.2 (13 June 2024), and a demo is available. Factory presets, a PDF manual and a tutorial video are included.

When to use it

XTT is a pick for heavy, OTT-style upward and downward compression with more control. Compared with Xfer OTT, it adds two more bands, movable crossovers, per-band attack, release and Mid/Side, and a built-in limiter, but it is not free. Unlike FabFilter Pro-MB or TDR Kotelnikov, it is not aimed at clean, precise dynamics; it is built for loud, dense electronic sounds. It is also far more aggressive in character than glue compressors such as Cytomic The Glue.

Best for: thickening synths, leads and drum loops, and bold multiband squash on electronic buses.
Genres: EDM, big room, pop and hip-hop.
Look elsewhere if: you need transparent multiband control for mastering (FabFilter Pro-MB), or only want the classic OTT sound for free (Xfer OTT).
