What it does
ChromaBox is a spectrum exciter that treats tone shaping like color grading: you pick a color profile, then adjust it with Hue, Saturation and Luminance controls. The developer's pitch is that you "click a button and hear your sound come alive".
- Color profiles: 32 profiles, each a mix of saturation and spectral shaping, in a quick-access palette sorted into Dark, Light, Vivid and Soft groups.
- Hue, Saturation, Luminance: Hue changes the character of the chosen profile, Saturation sets its intensity, and Luminance sets its tonal brightness.
- Space: adds reflections inside a simulated 3D space for a wider, deeper image.
- Resonate: controls a resonant peak in the shaping.
- Depth: one master knob that scales the saturation, frequency shaping and 3D effects together.
- Workflow: a real-time spectrum display, A/B comparison, undo/redo, a resizable vector interface and factory presets for several genres.
The developer calls it CPU friendly. A trial version is available.

When to use it
ChromaBox is the pick when you want to browse ready-made tonal characters rather than build a saturation sound stage by stage. Compared with Softube Saturation Knob or Baby Audio TAIP, it does more at once, combining saturation with EQ-style spectral shaping and 3D width in each profile. It is less direct than Soundtoys Decapitator or Radiator, which give you a clear drive control and a known analog character instead of abstract color settings. Unlike XLN RC-20 Retro Color, it has no noise, wobble or lo-fi degradation modules; its focus is brightness, excitement and width. It also costs less than most of those alternatives.
- Best for: adding brightness, color and width to synths, vocals, drums and buses when you want fast results.
- Genres: EDM, pop and hip-hop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a clear, controllable drive stage with a known analog sound (Decapitator or Saturation Knob), or vintage lo-fi texture (RC-20 Retro Color).
