Vienna MIR Pro 3D by Vienna Symphonic Library

A mixing and reverb engine that places each instrument in a sampled concert hall or studio using many impulse responses per room (Multi Impulse Response), with stereo, surround, immersive and Ambisonics output.

It runs as an AU, VST3 or AAX plugin with one MIR 3D RoomPack included; VSL lists it from €355 (about $403), with the full version at €745.

Best for: Acoustic Instruments, Mix Bus, Sound Design. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical.

Keywords: spacious, mixing, room, impulse-response based, hall, orchestra, cinematic, AAX, bus processing, full mix, mix bus, sound design, wide.

What it does

Vienna MIR Pro 3D is VSL's room-and-placement mixer: you put each instrument or audio track at a spot on a virtual stage, and MIR applies the room response captured for that exact position and direction. VSL wants you to work "more like a conductor than an engineer".

The product page lists version 3. Vienna Ensemble Pro is not required. It comes in a 24-instrument version and a full version, and Vienna Power House is also available. A 30-day free trial is available.

When to use it

MIR Pro 3D is the pick for building a whole orchestral or hybrid mix inside one real hall, with every instrument placed and the output going to stereo, surround or Atmos. Compared with LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms Professional and FabFilter Pro-R 2, it is less a reverb on a send and more a virtual stage for the full template, using sampled rooms instead of algorithms. That makes it slower to set up and far more expensive once you add room packs, but placement stays consistent across dozens of tracks. Against VSL's own Synchron Stage Reverb, it covers many venues, rotation and immersive formats, where the cheaper plugin offers one hall and nine fixed positions. For pop and rock mixing in stereo, its depth is mostly wasted.

What producers say

Reviewers rate it as one of the most realistic ways to place instruments in a real space, with cost and complexity as the main drawbacks.
