What it does
Synchron Stage Reverb is a convolution reverb that puts any track into Stage A of Vienna's Synchron Stage, the 540 m² scoring hall where VSL records its libraries. The idea is a real film-scoring room with "perfect sound out of the box" and only a few controls.
- Impulse responses: captured with a Decca tree, the main-mic setup used on many film scores in the hall.
- Positions: nine placements on a visual stage plan (front, middle and back, each left, centre and right), with smooth switching between them and no artifacts.
- Preset modes: General Purpose, Orchestral and Vocal/Drums, each with sensible placements for typical sources.
- Length and Color: reverb length from 0.9 to 3.6 seconds (1.8 by default), and a Color control with high and low shelf filters of up to ±9 dB.
- Wide Mics, Pan and Balance: Wide Mics sets the outer microphones from 0 to 200%; Pan and Balance shape how the source sits in the image.
- Amount and metering: a 0–100% wet Amount control that a modifier key can change across all instances at once, plus peak and RMS meters with per-channel solo.
- Channels and CPU: stereo and surround up to 7.1, with a low CPU load meant for one instance per track.
Synchron Stage Reverb is also included in Vienna Ensemble Pro 8, and a 30-day free trial is available.

When to use it
Synchron Stage Reverb is the better pick when you want dry samples or recordings to sound as if they were tracked in a real scoring stage, with almost no setup. Compared with LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms Professional and FabFilter Pro-R 2, it offers one room and a handful of controls instead of freely shaped algorithmic spaces, but its sound comes from real impulse responses of a famous hall. Unlike Seventh Heaven Professional, it recreates a room rather than a hardware reverb unit. Against VSL's own Vienna MIR Pro 3D it is far simpler and cheaper, with fewer placement options and no immersive output beyond 7.1. It also matches VSL's Synchron libraries closely, since they were recorded in the same room.
- Best for: placing dry orchestral samples, pianos, vocals and acoustic recordings in a real scoring stage.
- Genres: cinematic, classical, game music and orchestral pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want many reverb types, creative effects or one reverb on an aux send; Pro-R 2 or Cinematic Rooms Professional are more flexible, and MIR Pro 3D goes further for full orchestral templates and Atmos.
- Tip: use it as an insert on each instrument with its own position, and hold the modifier key to change the wet amount on all instances together.
What producers say
Sound On Sound found it a convincingly natural orchestral reverb that trades depth of features for simplicity and low CPU use.
- Sound On Sound (Trevor Michael, August 2025) praised the uncluttered interface, saying "It's well laid out. It's easy to see what's going on", and the smooth switching between presets and positions.
- Performance: the reviewer ran up to 100 instances without major performance problems.
- Criticisms: it has fewer features than MIR Pro 3D, is built as an insert rather than an aux-send reverb, so you may need many instances, and stops at 7.1 surround.
