What it does

Studio Elements is a collection of unusual acoustic instruments sorted by material, aimed at film scoring and sound design. VSL describes it as "archaic sounds, from ethereal shimmers to thunderous strikes".

The library holds 9,355 samples, and the Studio Series titles were previously sold as SYNCHRON-ized libraries. It runs in the Vienna Synchron Player.

When to use it

Studio Elements is for composers who want real, odd acoustic sources rather than synthesised textures. Compared with Augmented STRINGS and Augmented VOICES, which blend acoustic samples with synthesis for ready-made hybrid pads, it gives you the raw instruments, so you do more shaping yourself with the player and your own effects. Compared with the percussion in BBC Symphony Orchestra Core or Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, it covers sounds outside a standard orchestral percussion section, such as waterphone, glass harmonica and lithophone. It is small, so it loads quickly as a colour library next to a big template.
