What it does
BBO Percussion is the percussion pack of Big Bang Orchestra 2.0: large drum and metal ensembles recorded on Stage A of the Synchron Stage Vienna. VSL says it captures "the raw energy, precision, and power" of its players, aimed at trailer-sized impacts.
- Drums: Monster Drums, Thunder Toms, Bass Drums, Special Drums and a Snare Ensemble.
- Metals: Super Crashes, Suspended Cymbals, Big Metal and Small Metal.
- Ensembles: Percussion Ensembles and Pitched Percussion Ensembles with up to six players at once.
- Piano layers: three grand pianos mixed with various percussion instruments.
- Mic positions: Decca tree (stereo and centre), high stereo and surround, overheads (centre, left, right) and percussion close mics (centre, left, right).
- Presets: Room Mix, Stereo Decca Tree, Surround to Stereo, Surround and Processed presets.
The pack holds 36,150 samples. BBO 2.0 regrouped the original Big Bang Orchestra libraries into seven packs by instrument family (Tutti, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Riffs and Choirs), also sold together as the Big Bang Orchestra Bundle; owners of the older BBO packs get upgrade pricing. It runs in the Vienna Synchron Player (with VSL's Flow View). It has a 30-day free trial.

When to use it
BBO Percussion is aimed at trailer-sized hits and big drum ensembles rather than a classical percussion section. Compared with the percussion in BBC Symphony Orchestra Core or Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, it focuses on massed drums, huge metals and layered piano-plus-percussion hits, not individual orchestral instruments. It is narrower than those full orchestras but costs far less than buying one just for impact sounds. It also shares the Stage A room with the other BBO packs, so it sits naturally under BBO Brass and Choirs.
- Best for: trailer hits, action drums, big crashes and cinematic impacts.
- Genres: cinematic, trailer music, game scores and epic hybrid tracks.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a classical orchestral percussion section; a full orchestra such as BBC Symphony Orchestra Core or a dedicated orchestral percussion library fits that.
What producers say
There are no reviews focused on BBO Percussion yet; reviewers of the BBO 2.0 bundle as a whole were positive.
- Sound On Sound (Dave Stewart, July 2026) gave BBO 2.0 five stars, crediting the regrouping into seven family-based packs, access to all mic positions and the simpler Flow interface.
- Sample Library Review (November 2025) called the bundle "Instantly Epic!" and praised its "high-octane, easy to use and flexible scoring", but gave no pack-by-pack detail.
