What it does

Basso Profondo Choir records six contrabass singers, the very lowest male voices, on Stage A of VSL's Synchron Stage. VSL says they reach "dramatic dimensions that few other voices can reach".

It runs in the Vienna Synchron Player. The product page does not mention a demo.

When to use it

Basso Profondo Choir does one thing: the deep, dark male choir sound under a cue, from a low hum to a roar. Compared with Eric Whitacre Choir or the choirs in Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, it gives up the full SATB range for a lower, heavier bass than a standard choir section. Unlike EastWest's Hollywood Choirs, it has no word builder, so it suits drones, chants and effects more than texted lines. Paired with VSL's Vienna Boys Choir, which shares the same player, it gives a strong high-and-low contrast.

What producers say

Reviewers praise the depth and dynamic range; the main reservation is the limited articulation set.
