What it does

Angelic Choir is a free soprano choir instrument from Vienna Symphonic Library, built around soft, airy voices rather than a full choral section. VSL pitches it as a way to "transport your music to celestial heights".

Ensemble: 16 professional soprano singers, recorded together as one section.
Recording room: captured in the fairly dry, controlled ambience of VSL's Silent Stage, so the room can be added afterwards.
Sounds: ethereal textures and chant-like phrasings, plus FX presets that push the voices further into sound design.
Mixer presets: ready-made mixer presets for a production-ready sound without building your own mix.
Reverb control: the internal reverb can be adjusted to place the choir in different spaces, or switched off to use your own reverb.
Small footprint: 412 samples, so it loads quickly even on a modest system.
Player: runs in VSL's free Vienna Synchron Player and is part of VSL's free instruments bundle.

Angelic Choir is free. No version number is given.

When to use it

Angelic Choir is the pick when you want a quick, free soprano pad that sits behind a mix without tying up much RAM. Compared with Spitfire's Eric Whitacre Choir, it has only one voice type and no full SATB sections, but it costs nothing. Next to EastWest's Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, which bundles choir sounds into a huge orchestral package, it is a single focused patch set rather than a production suite. Unlike Arturia's Augmented VOICES, it stays close to a real recorded choir and does not blend the voices with synthesis, though its FX presets add some processed colour. Its dry Silent Stage recording makes it easy to match with your own reverb.

Best for: airy soprano pads, ambient beds and a light choral shimmer on top of strings or synths.
Genres: cinematic, ambient, new age and atmospheric pop.
Look elsewhere if: you need altos, tenors and basses, words or real choral writing; Eric Whitacre Choir or VSL's paid Studio Vienna Choir cover full sections.
Tip: the internal reverb can be switched off, so you can place the choir in the same reverb as the rest of your track.
