Tempo Delay
by Voxengo · Delay · Tempo-synced stereo delay
Not rated yet
A free tempo-synced stereo delay with separate initial-delay, repetition-period and pan controls, plus filter and tremolo sections.
Filter and tremolo each have separate left and right settings, so ping-pong repeats can differ in tone and movement per side.
Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: tremolo, ping-pong, tempo-synced, free, low latency, vocals, electric guitar, resizable UI, synths, undo/redo, A/B compare, mixing, rhythmic, sound design, zero-latency.
What it does
Tempo Delay is Voxengo's free "multi-feature delay plugin based on tempo." Instead of a single delay-length control it sets the initial delay and the repetition period separately, both relative to the host tempo.
- Independent timing: initial delay, repetition period and stereo panning are set separately, for balanced ping-pong echoes.
- Filter section: a resonant filter with separate controls for the left and right channels to shape each repeat.
- Tremolo section: fully adjustable tremolo, again with per-channel settings.
- Host sync: all timing locks to the project BPM with multiplier controls, at zero latency.
- Workflow: preset manager, undo/redo, A/B comparisons and a resizable Retina/HiDPI interface.
Version 2.9. Tempo Delay is free.
When to use it
Tempo Delay is a free option for tempo-locked ping-pong echoes with tremolo and per-side filtering built in; pick it if you want those in one free plugin and don't mind its percentage-based timing. Valhalla Delay, FabFilter Timeless 3 and Waves H-Delay are fuller delays than Tempo Delay, with conventional note-value timing and far more modes.
- Best for: rhythmic ping-pong delays and filtered, pulsing echoes on guitars, synths and vocals.
- Genres: any; it's a general-purpose delay.
- Look elsewhere if: you want note-value timing, long delay times or tape-style character; Valhalla Delay or EchoBoy suit that better.
- Standout: separate initial-delay and repeat-period controls with per-channel filter and tremolo.
What producers say
KVR reviewers find the concept interesting but the controls awkward, and one warns about runaway feedback.
- KVR user (2022): said "Tempo Delay does not really convince me," but liked the filter, tremolo and per-channel panning.
- Gripe: the same reviewer found feedback above about -6 builds "an upward feedback loop" and noted delays only reach a 3/4 note.
- KVR user (2025): agreed that "all common and familiar functions are featured in a very weird way."
