An easy-to-use parametric equalizer with up to 32 filters, 13 filter types and a SPAN-style spectrum analyzer built in.
Its "differential" display shows exactly how the selected filter contributes to the overall curve, and it runs at zero latency.
Best for: Vocals, Mix Bus, Mastering, Keys & Synths. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: built-in analyzer, low latency, full mix, undo/redo, A/B compare, bus processing, corrective, mastering, mid/side, mix bus, mixing, resizable UI, swirling, visual feedback, vocals, zero-latency.
What it does
PrimeEQ is Voxengo's "primary equalizer", designed to be the first EQ you reach for: insert it, then place and drag control points on the overall EQ curve. It is similar to CurveEQ in layout but uses independent parametric filters instead of a continuous curve.
- Filters: up to 32 parametric filters with 13 filter types and narrow-band sweeping.
- Differential display: shows how the selected filter contributes to the overall EQ shape, with all control points on the overall curve.
- Analyzer: a customizable real-time spectrum analyzer of the same quality as in SPAN and GlissEQ.
- Channels: stereo, mono and multi-channel processing including 5.1 and 7.1 surround.
- Workflow: zero processing latency, preset manager, undo/redo, A/B comparisons and a resizable interface.
The trial is fully featured but mutes the output for a moment every 45 seconds.
When to use it
PrimeEQ is a lower-cost clean parametric EQ with a strong analyzer and a clear view of each band's contribution, a good fit if you already like SPAN's display. FabFilter Pro-Q 4 is the more complete everyday EQ, with dynamic bands and mid/side per band, and TDR Nova adds the dynamic EQ PrimeEQ lacks, for free.
- Best for: everyday corrective and tonal EQ on tracks, buses and masters, and voice streaming.
- Genres: any; it's a general-purpose EQ.
- Look elsewhere if: you need dynamic EQ or per-band mid/side, which users say it lacks.
- Standout: the differential display that isolates one filter's effect on the curve.
What producers say
Computer Music rated it highly as a precise, affordable workhorse EQ; users mostly echo that.
- Computer Music (2016): called it "A brilliant bread-and-butter equaliser" with a slick, flexible interface; cons listed were "Meagre presets" and no preconfigured default.
- KVR forum (2020): a user who demoed it wrote "Wish Prime EQ had mid side but even without it is great."
