A free utility plugin that compensates for latency produced by plugins, instruments or processes that do not report it to the host.
It reports 10,000 samples of latency and delays audio by 10,000 minus the amount you set, so the host's compensation lines everything back up.
Best for: Sound Design, Mix Bus. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: utility, free, resizable UI, samples & loops, undo/redo, A/B compare, bus processing, full mix, mix bus, sound design.
What it does
Latency Delay is a free Voxengo utility that "allows you to compensate latency produced by any audio plugins" that do not report it to the host application.
- How it works: it introduces 10,000 samples of latency itself and delays the signal by 10,000 minus the specified amount, cancelling the unreported delay.
- Samples or milliseconds: the amount can be set in either samples or milliseconds.
- Host requirement: the host must support plugin delay compensation for it to work.
- Standard Voxengo features: stereo and multi-channel processing, preset manager, undo/redo, A/B comparisons and all sample rates.
- Interface: color schemes, resizable interface and Retina/HiDPI support.
Version 2.12, free.
When to use it
Latency Delay solves a narrower problem than Eventide Precision Time Align and Little Labs IBP Phase Alignment Tool, which align signals by time and phase for multi-mic sources. It fixes tracks that drift because a plugin or external process adds delay without telling the host, and it is free.
- Best for: re-aligning tracks after external hardware inserts or plugins that do not report their latency.
- Genres: any; it is a workflow utility.
- Look elsewhere if: you need phase alignment between microphones; Precision Time Align is built for that.
- Standout: a simple, free fix for unreported latency.
