Not rated yet
A 7-band parametric EQ that adds harmonic enhancement to its filters, with dynamic EQ modes and a "Lampthruster" saturation module.
Its single control surface extends to 38 kHz for smooth air boosts, and it handles mid/side and surround processing.
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus, Vocals, Acoustic Instruments. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: enhancement, harmonic enhancer, mastering, vocals, dynamic, mid/side, thick, colored, full mix, surgical, built-in analyzer, beginner-friendly, bus processing, gentle, minimal controls, mix bus, mixing, musical, oversampling, single knob, smooth, visual feedback.
What it does
HarmoniEQ is Voxengo's "Harmonically-Enhanced Equalizer": a parametric EQ where harmonic enhancement is part of the sound, with dynamic modes aimed at mastering.
- 7 filters: peaking, low-shelf, high-shelf, low-pass, high-pass and notch types, all set by dragging points on a single control surface.
- Harmonic character: the filters add harmonic coloration, and a separate saturation module uses Voxengo's original "Lampthruster" algorithm.
- Dynamic equalizing: dynamic modes let the EQ respond to the signal level.
- Extended range: the control surface runs up to 38 kHz for gentle air boosts.
- Channel options: stereo, mono, mid/side and surround (5.1, 7.1), up to 8x oversampling and a real-time spectrum analyzer.
Version 2.12. It has 11 ms of compensated latency. The trial is fully featured but mutes the output for a moment every 45 seconds.
When to use it
HarmoniEQ is a parametric "character" EQ that adds harmonics as you boost, with dynamic modes and saturation in the same window, at a lower price. Like Pultec Passive EQ Collection and Maag Audio EQ4 MS, the character EQs on the site for broad, flattering boosts, it colors the sound, while FabFilter Pro-Q 4 is the clean surgical choice.
- Best for: musical boosts and air on mixes, vocals and acoustic sources where a bit of harmonic thickening helps.
- Genres: general purpose, especially mastering and acoustic or vocal-led material.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a fully transparent, zero-latency EQ or more than 7 bands.
- Standout: harmonic enhancement built into the filters, plus the Lampthruster saturator.
What producers say
Reviews are positive about its sound and flexibility; the main noted drawback is latency.
- MusicRadar (2010) called it "a superb-sounding EQ that can make sounds come alive" and noted the harmonics give "a satisfying thickening effect."
- KVR user (2024) gave version 2.11 5/5: "Excellent concept for a plugin and does it well."
- Gripe: MusicRadar listed its 11 ms of latency as the one downside.
