Boogex by Voxengo

A free guitar amp plugin with 10 amp modes, a convolution cabinet stage with 61 built-in impulses, a gate and a reverb.

It runs at near-zero latency, and with the amp stage off it doubles as a lightweight stereo IR loader.

Best for: Guitars, Bass, Sound Design. Genres: Rock & Indie, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical, Lo-Fi.

Keywords: electric guitar, impulse-response based, low latency, convolution, zero-latency, free, resizable UI, undo/redo, A/B compare, bass, clean, corrective, CPU-light, crunchy, heavy, lo-fi, mixing, sound design.

What it does

Boogex is a free guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet plugin. Voxengo says it can produce anything from heavy distortion to slight "jazzy" saturation, and it can load any cabinet impulse response.

Boogex is free.

When to use it

Boogex is a simpler all-in-one: amp, cab, gate and reverb in one window, with a built-in IR library. Its amp modeling is less realistic than in the free Guitar Rig 7 Player and STL Tones' Ignite: Emissary, and unlike Ignite Amps NadIR, a dedicated IR loader, it covers the whole chain. Voxengo itself says the amp modes are "not particularly well-suited for metal music," though the cab stage works for any style.

What producers say

KVR users rate it 4.2/5 across five reviews, mostly praising it as one of the better free amp and cab plugins.
