A bass management plugin for 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 surround work that extracts the low end of the non-LFE channels with an adjustable crossover.
The extracted bass can be sent to the LFE channel for subwoofer monitoring and optionally removed from the main channels.
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: mastering, low latency, multi-band, utility, bass, full mix, mixing, undo/redo, A/B compare, bus processing, CPU-light, mix bus, zero-latency.
What it does
BMS (Bass Management System) is a surround utility for professional sound work. It pulls low-frequency content out of the non-LFE channels in up to 7.1 configurations, mainly to make it easier to evaluate that low end during mastering.
- Up to 7.1: works with 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 surround configurations.
- Adjustable crossover: set the crossover frequency and its steepness.
- Route to LFE: mix the extracted low end into the LFE channel for monitoring through a subwoofer.
- Remove from mains: optionally remove the extracted signal from the non-LFE channels.
- Lightweight: zero latency, all sample rates, preset manager, undo/redo and A/B comparisons.
The trial is fully featured but mutes the output for a moment every 45 seconds.
When to use it
BMS does one thing: a clean, adjustable bass-management crossover for checking and routing low end in surround sessions. Compared with the closer surround tools on the site, it is narrower than Waves M360 Surround Manager & Mixdown, a broader monitoring and downmix suite, and unlike Dorrough Surround, which is a meter, it routes the low end.
- Best for: surround mastering and mixing rooms that need bass management in software, and checking low end in non-LFE channels.
- Genres: film, game and immersive music work, plus any surround release.
- Look elsewhere if: you only work in stereo, or need Atmos-scale speaker management; a monitor controller or dedicated room system is a better fit.
- Standout: optionally removing the extracted bass from the main channels, not just copying it to the LFE.
