Chamfer is a de-esser from Vitric Audio whose relative threshold follows the program level, with a LEARN function that places the detection band for you.
It is on sale for $29 (regular $80) as VST3, AU and AAX for macOS and Windows.
Best for: Vocals. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: vocals, dialogue, low latency, corrective, cymbals, live performance, podcast, spacious, zero-latency, AAX, AI assistant, hybrid topology, keys, lead vocals, perpetual licence, smooth, spectral, strings, stereo-linked, subscription.
What it does
Chamfer is a de-esser whose threshold follows the vocal level, so it keeps catching esses in quiet lines without crushing loud ones. The developer's line is "sibilance control that follows the performance".
- Threshold modes: Relative, which tracks the program level and shows a visible RIDE line, or a fixed Absolute threshold.
- LEARN: analyses recent input, places the detection band, calibrates the threshold and suggests a starting Amount.
- Three styles: Smooth (a gradual high-frequency contour), Split (more even band reduction) and Surgical (per-bin spectral shaping, Precise mode only).
- Amount and Range: Amount from 0 to 150% sets the target balance; Range from 0 to 24 dB caps the depth.
- Detection band: drag or type exact edge frequencies; a clickable ess strip shows each detected event with its depth, confidence and centre frequency.
- Listen modes: Band, Voice and Removed, held with the mouse or latched with keys 1, 2 and 3.
- Stereo and timing: Stereo, Mid Focus and Sides processing, a per-channel Link, and a Speed control with separate attack and release trims.
Precise mode adds 191 samples (about 4 ms at 48 kHz) of latency; Live mode runs at zero latency. There are 24 factory starting points for vocals, speech, stacks, cymbals, strings, buses and live use. The current version is 0.2.9. It has been offered on sale. Licenses are perpetual, one-time purchases, with a free, full-function 3-day trial (no card needed) and a 14-day money-back guarantee; all eleven Vitric plugins are also available through the Vitric Complete subscription.

When to use it
Chamfer suits singers whose level swings a lot, where a fixed threshold either misses the soft esses or dulls the loud ones. Compared with Pro-DS, it adds a level-following threshold and a LEARN step, but it is still at version 0.x while Pro-DS is long established. Against Oxford SuprEsser it costs much less and adds a clickable event strip showing each detected ess. Its zero-latency Live mode and live-use presets also make it an option on stage.
- Best for: dynamic lead vocals, spoken word and podcasts, and taming cymbal or string harshness.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a long-proven de-esser; Pro-DS or Oxford SuprEsser are established, and Re-Esser is simpler.
- Tip: use the Removed listen mode to check you are taking out only the esses before raising Amount.
