What it does
Free EQ is the parametric equalizer in Venn Audio's Free Suite, a free set of mixing plugins meant to cover "all the tools needed to fully mix a track".
- Parametric EQ: adjustable bandwidth and multiple filter types for corrective and tonal work.
- Spectrum analyzer: a built-in analyzer shows the signal while you set bands.
- Filter slopes: version 1.5 added slope selection for the high-pass and low-pass filters.
- Light and resizable: the developer calls the suite "performant, light weight, resizeable, zero fuss"; the 1.5 back-end rewrite targeted performance and stability.
- Part of a set: it shares its look with Free Comp, Free Strip, Free Delay and the other suite plugins.
Free Suite version 1.5.7 is free.

When to use it
Free EQ suits anyone who wants a light, free parametric EQ with an analyzer that matches the rest of the Free Suite. Compared with Pro-Q 4, it has no dynamic bands, linear-phase mode or spectrum matching, but it covers basic shaping at no cost. TDR Nova is also free and adds dynamic EQ, so it is the better free pick for taming resonances that come and go. Unlike the Pultec Passive EQ Collection, Free EQ does not model hardware colour.
- Best for: everyday corrective cuts, high- and low-pass filtering and broad tone shaping in a free toolkit.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you need dynamic EQ (TDR Nova), linear phase and advanced features (Pro-Q 4), or analog character (Pultec Passive EQ Collection).
