Magic Carpet is a free, open-source delay from UnplugRed with three delay lines that share one feedback path.

The echoes start sparse and get denser with each repeat, and a noise mode adds unstable feedback.

Best for: Guitars, Keys & Synths, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Electronic & EDM.

What it does

Magic Carpet is a free UnplugRed delay that uses "three delay lines with a shared feedback path". It starts sparse and gets denser with each repeat, so the gaps between echoes fill in.

Three delay lines: running together and feeding one shared feedback path, which multiplies the repeats.
Building density: the sound moves from distinct echoes towards a full, reverb-like wash as it feeds back.
Feedback: sets how dense and rich the delay becomes.
Random button: generates new settings with each press.
Noise mode: in the right-click menu; it raises the feedback to unstable, loud levels for experimental sounds.
Interface: UnplugRed's retro, artsy look, drawn with OpenGL.

Version 1.0 is free and open source (GPL 3); the free version shows a small rotating banner, which Patreon supporters can remove.

When to use it

Magic Carpet is a simple free delay for dense echoes that bloom into washes. Compared with EchoBoy, Valhalla Delay and Timeless 3, it has one sound and very few controls, so it has no tape or analog styles, filtering or modulation to shape the repeats. That also makes it faster: set the feedback, or press Random, and it does its one thing. Unlike Replika XT, it is free.

Best for: dense, full delays that grow into washes, from subtle depth on a snare to extreme feedback textures.
Genres: ambient, cinematic, experimental and electronic.
Look elsewhere if: you want clean, tempo-locked slapback or tape echo; EchoBoy suits that better, and Valhalla Delay covers more styles.
Tip: watch your levels in Noise mode, since the feedback becomes loud and unpredictable (Bedroom Producers Blog).

What producers say

The few reactions so far see it as a quirky but useful free delay.

Bedroom Producers Blog (James Nugent, March 2025) called it quirky in a good way, liking the dense sound, the Random button and Noise mode, though the interface may strike some as harsh.
KVR users the one user review (version 1.0, Windows) found it "surprisingly usable for subtle applications", such as on snare drums.
