What it does

CRMBL is a free, open-source delay from UnplugRed with a wide feature set. The developer says that "in the right hands" it can move from normal echoes to "highly textural results".

Version 1.0 is free and open source under GPL 3; the free version shows a small banner, and the developer's page also offers a paid version.

When to use it

CRMBL is a good free pick when you want delays that turn into texture, thanks to pitch shifting inside the feedback loop and reverse repeats. Compared with EchoBoy or Timeless 3, it has no tape or analog style models, no rhythm or tap patterns and far fewer modulation options, but it costs nothing. It is narrower than Valhalla Delay, which covers many delay styles in one plugin. Unlike any of those paid delays, its source code is open.
