What it does

Phantomix is a Muramasa multi-effect, sold by United Plugins, built around the idea "Don't Just Compress. Create." Instead of throwing away the dynamics a compressor removes, it splits them off and sends them through an effects chain, while the rest of the signal passes untouched.

Dynamic Splitter: works as a compressor or a gate. In compressor mode the loud parts above the threshold go to the effects; in gate mode the quiet parts do.
Splitter controls: threshold, ratio, attack and release, plus low and high cuts so only part of the spectrum is split, and solo buttons to hear each path.
Reverb and delay: space applied only to the prominent or only to the subtle part, so the mix stays clear.
Drive: saturation and distortion aimed at selected transients or detail.
Dynamics: a compressor and a transient module that work on the split signal, for example to lift subtle hits.
Modulation: chorus, flanger, phaser and tremolo.
EQ and filters: precision tone shaping on the processed path.
Workflow: presets sorted by instrument, 64-bit processing at sample rates up to 192 kHz and above, smart bypass with latency compensation and sleep mode on silence.

When to use it

Phantomix is the pick when you want effects on only one dynamic part of a sound. Compared with Infiltrator 2 and Multipass, which split a signal by frequency band, it splits by level, so you can put reverb only on the transients or saturation only on the quiet detail. It is less flexible than those two, since its effects run in a fixed left-to-right order with no reordering. Next to Soundtoys' Effect Rack it has fewer and simpler effects, but its splitter does something Effect Rack cannot do directly.

Best for: creative processing of only the transients or only the quiet detail on drums, vocals, guitars and keys, and parallel-style compression with built-in effects.
Genres: any; electronic, ambient and pop in particular.
Look elsewhere if: you want frequency-band splitting or free module routing; Multipass or Infiltrator 2 are built for that.

Magnetic Magazine (Ben Lepper, September 2025) called it a powerful sound design tool that can do the work of several plugins, easy for beginners yet deep for experts, with high-quality effects modules.
