What it does
Unisynth is Unison's generative synth: instead of browsing presets, you pick a genre and a sound type and press generate. Unison calls it an "AI-powered, generative synth that's genre-specific", built on thousands of genre-specific wavetables, samples, parameter sets and effects.
- Generation: one-click sounds in 32 genres, plus a hidden "???" fusion mode that mixes all 32.
- Workflow: choose genre and sound type, generate, then play or keep generating; Unison pitches it as trying dozens of ideas in under a minute.
- Oscillators: four, each switchable between Analog, Wavetable, Sampler and Resonator modes.
- Effects: 25 built-in effects, including reverb, distortion, EQ, compression, stereo tools and analog warmth.
- Advanced mode: opens the generated patch for editing in a simpler, user-friendly layout.
- Presets: a set of presets modelled on successful songs, alongside the generator.
- Royalty-free: generated sounds can be used commercially.
It is sold as a one-time purchase with lifetime access and free updates, with a launch discount and a 60-day money-back guarantee. It is also part of Unison's Plugin Pass subscription, which has a 7-day free trial.
When to use it
Unisynth is the better pick when speed matters more than control: it hands you a genre-matched sound in one click and lets you edit it afterwards. Compared with Serum 2 and Vital, it has a simpler editor and no comparable ecosystem of presets and tutorials, but you don't need to know synthesis to get a usable sound. Like Phase Plant and Pigments 7 it mixes several oscillator types, though it exposes far less of the engine for deep sound design. It is also cheaper than Serum 2 or Omnisphere 3 at its launch price, with a subscription option.
- Best for: quick genre-matched synth sounds for beats and pop production, and breaking out of preset browsing.
- Genres: hip-hop, trap, electronic and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to learn and program synthesis in depth; Vital is free and Serum 2 has a far bigger ecosystem.
