It is on sale for $67 (regular $497) as a plugin for Mac and Windows.

Keywords: synths, bass, beginner-friendly, creative, macro controls, perpetual licence, preset-driven, rap vocals, rhythmic, subscription, utility.

What it does

MIDI Wizard 2.0 is Unison's main songwriting generator: pick a key and a genre, and it writes chord progressions, melodies or both, then plays them with its own synth. Unison's aim is to make writing "quick and easy" rather than deep.

Three modes: Chord (block chords or rhythmic chords), Melody (longer leads or short plucks) and Hybrid, which combines the chord and melody algorithms.
32 genres: including hip-hop and rap, house and deep house, pop and future pop, R&B, synthwave and synth-pop, and techno and melodic techno, plus a hidden "???" option that fuses all 32.
Generation controls: key and genre selection, velocity and swing, with the generated progressions labelled by chord name.
Built-in sound: a synth with 200 factory presets, each with macro controls, plus an audio sampler for your own sounds.
16 effects: Auto-Pan, Bitcrush, Chorus, Compress, Destroy, Detune, Echo, Flange, Mangle, Phase, Reverse, Space, Tremolo, Verb, Vibrato and Wobble.
Chord detection and editing: drag in an existing MIDI progression and it detects the chords; a built-in piano roll highlights the scale.
Integration and export: Unison Link pairs it with Bass Dragon for matching basslines, it can drive other synth and instrument plugins, and results drag out or export as MIDI or audio.

It is sold as a one-time purchase on sale, or comes in the Unison Plugin Pass subscription (7-day free trial), with a 60-day money-back guarantee instead of a demo.

When to use it

MIDI Wizard 2.0 is the faster pick when you want a finished-sounding idea in a set genre: it writes chords and melodies and plays them with its own presets and effects. Compared with Scaler it offers less editing depth and theory control, so Scaler suits writers who want to build progressions themselves. Compared with Unison's own Chord Genie it adds melodies, genre styles and built-in sounds, which makes the cheaper Chord Genie redundant if you own both. It covers 32 preset genres but cannot generate outside that list.

Best for: quick chord and melody starting points in a chosen genre, and beginners who want usable results fast.
Genres: hip-hop, trap, pop, R&B, house, techno and synthwave.
Look elsewhere if: you want detailed theory tools and progression editing; Scaler goes much further, and Chord Genie is cheaper if you only need chords.
Tip: route its MIDI into your own synths for more control over the sound, and link it to Bass Dragon so the bassline follows the chords.

What producers say

The one detailed review found it the standout of Unison's generators for fast songwriting, with editing depth as the main limit.

AltWire (Derek Oswald, 2025) praised the clear genre choices, seamless MIDI routing to other synths and factory sounds "perfectly suitable for use in released tracks".
Criticisms: AltWire found the editing depth limited next to Scaler, with no way to generate outside the preset genre list.
