Best for: Keys & Synths. Genres: R&B & Soul, Pop, Rock & Indie, Hip-Hop & Trap.

Keywords: electric piano, gritty, hardware emulation, 50s, 60s, 70s, gentle, punchy, sample-based, simple, smooth, vintage.

What it does

GRIT, "The Electric Rebel", is UJAM's Wurlitzer, sampled from a rare customized 1950s Wurlitzer 120 with plenty of edge and bite. It can play rhythm parts for you from the chords you hold, or be played as a normal keyboard.

Five characters: Gentle, Cozy, Solid, Gritty and Hyped, which move the tone from smooth to biting.
Player Mode: 30 styles for soul, funk, indie and pop; the left hand picks the pattern and the right hand sets the notes, with a Busyness slider for how much it plays.
Instrument Mode: play the Wurlitzer yourself from a keyboard.
Finisher: 45 effect presets, including mechanical noises, plus chorus, phaser, compression, amps, drive, fuzz, filters and modulation.
Ambience: 45 atmospheric presets built from reverbs, delays and effect combinations.
Shaping and feel: a Dark/Light tone slider, timing and swing settings, and humanize controls.
MIDI drag and drop: drag patterns into your DAW as MIDI; all phrases and sounds are royalty-free.

When to use it

GRIT is the pick when you want a gritty Wurlitzer part fast and don't want to play it yourself. Compared with Keyscape, it covers just one instrument, but its auto-player turns held chords into soul, funk and indie rhythm parts. Compared with Waves Electric 88 Piano, it puts the auto-player and effects first instead of detailed playing. Compared with EZkeys 2, it is built around a single electric piano rather than a songwriting tool with many instruments and MIDI grooves. Its full price is high for a single Wurly, so it makes most sense on sale or with the loyalty discount.

Best for: punchy Wurlitzer rhythm parts and comping in soul, funk, indie and pop, especially for producers who don't play keys.
Genres: soul, funk, R&B, indie, pop and hip-hop.
Look elsewhere if: you play keys well and want a deep, playable range of electric pianos; Keyscape goes much further.
Tip: the 120's short sustain and bite suit pattern parts, so MusicPlayers.com suggests using GRIT where you might use a rhythm guitar.

What producers say

The one full review found GRIT a convincing Wurlitzer 120 with a smart player, held back by a few limits and its full price.

MusicPlayers.com (Jason Buchwald, April 2026) gave it 3.5 stars, praising the accurate 120 sound with "a little more bite", the quick player mode and the simple interface.
Criticisms: only one Finisher effect and one Ambience at a time, documentation shared with other Virtual Pianist models, and a price that is less competitive than other Wurlitzer recreations.
