What it does

UFX FILTER is UJAM's creative multi-mode filter for drums, guitars, vocals and synths. It puts 20 filter types, a modulation section and two effect slots behind a small set of controls, so most of the work starts from a preset.

Classic filters: lowpass, highpass, bandpass and notch, plus a Low/High mode that crosses over from lowpass to highpass.
Character filters: Vintage LP (an analog-style lowpass) and Broken LP (a "dusty circuit" lowpass).
Peaks and bands: Dual Peak, Tri Peak, Dual Wide, Dual Contra and Dual Band, detuned multi-peak shapes for resonant, vocal-like sweeps.
Comb and Talking modes: five comb filters (Comb +, Comb −, two Low variants and Comb Contra) and three Talking formant filters that make the sound speak.
Modulation: an envelope follower that tracks the input level, an LFO with classic shapes such as sine and saw, stepped patterns and rhythmic gating.
Shaper and Finisher: 40 Shaper algorithms (including extra filters) and 50 Finisher effects such as chorus, grain clouds and rhythmic processing.
Presets and Surprise: 150+ presets and a randomizer with a Small/Big control, from subtle variations to radical changes.

A free trial is available (30 days, according to Sound On Sound).

When to use it

UFX FILTER is the quick, preset-first choice: pick a sound, move a knob or hit Surprise, and the filter, modulation and effects come together. Compared with FilterFreak, it has more filter shapes (comb, multi-peak and talking modes) but far less hands-on control of the modulation. Volcano 3 gives exact cutoff, routing and modulation settings that UFX FILTER keeps hidden, and Filterverse goes deeper on modulated, experimental filtering. Against FilterShaper XL it has no drawable modulation curves, but its built-in Shaper and Finisher effects add colour that FilterShaper leaves to other plugins. It is also one of the cheaper filters in this group.

Best for: rhythmic filter movement, talking and comb effects, and fast creative filtering on loops, drums, synths, guitars and vocals.
Genres: electronic, hip-hop, pop and sound design for media.
Look elsewhere if: you want precise cutoff, slope and modulation settings; Volcano 3 or FilterFreak give that control.
Tip: use the Surprise button with the Small setting to find variations of a preset you like, and automate controls in your DAW for extra movement.

What producers say

Sound On Sound liked it a lot, mainly for how fast it gets creative results.

Sound On Sound (John Walden, July 2025) found it "wonderfully simple but, again, also very effective", praised the presets, the flexible LFO options and the compact Shaper and Finisher effects, and called it "great fun and a bargain to boot".
Criticisms: the review raised none; the main limit is the small, preset-driven control set, which suits quick results more than detailed filter design.
