What it does

Beatmaker HUSTLE is a drum instrument in UJAM's Beatmaker series, sold as "Drums for Pumping Bass Music Tracks". It is built around hard 808s, aggressive hi-hats and percussion for trap, grime, Dirty South and bass-heavy club beats, played as ready-made patterns from the keyboard.

Kits: 10 hard-hitting kits, each with a bass sound designed to sit alongside the kick drum.
Patterns: 20 styles with 23 patterns each, 460 in all.
Bass Tune control: the series' special control here sets the pitch of the bass elements, so the 808s can follow the key of the track.
MIDI drag and drop: drag patterns into your DAW to edit them.
Licensing of content: all MIDI phrases and sounds are royalty-free for commercial productions.

When to use it

HUSTLE is the pick when you want trap and grime drums with a tuned 808 bass in one instrument and no programming. Compared with XO and Battery 4, it gives far less freedom to build kits and sequence beats, but it plays genre-ready patterns with the bass already in place. Nerve offers much deeper sample editing and step sequencing. Within the Beatmaker range it is the bass-music option, where KANDY goes for glossy pop and CIRCUITS for vintage analog machines.

Best for: 808-driven trap, grime and bass music beats, and quick demos in those styles.
Genres: trap, grime, Southern hip-hop and bass music.
Look elsewhere if: you want to design kits and program beats from scratch; XO or Battery 4 give more freedom.
Tip: set Bass Tune to the song's key before recording, so the 808 under the kick matches your bassline and chords.

Sound On Sound's review of the previous version (Beatmaker 2) found solid sounds and good patterns at a fair price, aimed more at beginners than experts.

Sound On Sound (HUSTLE 2) praised the "solid sounds and cool patterns" and the competitive price, and said it delivers strong electronic drums "with a minimum of fuss".
Criticisms: Sound On Sound saw it as better for "beginner and intermediate rather than expert producers" who don't need deep sound editing.
