What it does

COZY is a drum instrument in UJAM's Beatmaker series, sold as "Warm Beats for Chill and Study Vibes". It aims for lo-fi hip-hop beats with an analog-inspired, dusty character that you can load and play with almost no setup.

Kits: 10 lo-fi drum kits with 16 instruments each, made from high-quality samples deliberately degraded for a vintage tone.
Patterns: 20 styles with 23 patterns each, 460 in all, triggered from style and phrase keys.
Nostalgia control: one dial that combines vinyl noise, transient smoothing and tube warmth.
Micro timing: loose, slightly late timing for a lazy swing instead of strict quantisation, plus a Swing control.
Finisher: 12 retro effects with Amount and Beat Intensity controls.
Master section: filter sweep, saturation (Drive), maximiser and ambience with a choice of reverbs.
Instrument panel: volume, decay, pitch and filter per drum, with mixing and separate outputs for each sound.
MIDI drag and drop: drag patterns into your DAW to edit them; all MIDI and sounds are royalty-free.

When to use it

Beatmaker COZY is the pick when you want finished lo-fi hip-hop drums with the dust and lazy timing already built in. Compared with XO or Battery 4, it gives far less freedom to build your own kits and patterns, but the Nostalgia dial and micro timing get you the lo-fi sound without stacking vinyl, saturation and swing tools yourself. Like EZdrummer 3, it is built around ready-made grooves you drag into the DAW, but its sounds are lo-fi and style-specific rather than acoustic kits. It costs far less than any of those.

Best for: laid-back lo-fi hip-hop beats for chill and study music, and quick beat sketches.
Genres: lo-fi and hip-hop.
Look elsewhere if: you want to design kits and program beats from scratch, or chop your own samples; XO, Battery 4 or Nerve give more freedom.
Tip: swap single drums between kits to build your own combination, and use the filter sweep for extra lo-fi muffle.

What producers say

Sound On Sound rated it highly as a simple but very effective lo-fi drum tool.

Sound On Sound (Atheen Spencer, 2023) gave it 5 out of 5, calling it "a simple-to-use but very effective plug-in" and praising the Nostalgia dial, the relaxed micro timing and the per-drum mixing and outputs.
Criticisms: the review raised none; the main limit is the fixed lo-fi style.
