What it does
A de-esser for taming sibilance on vocals, drum overheads, hi-hats and full mixes.
- Two modes: a modern band-pass mode or a traditional high-pass mode.
- Split mode: aims to reduce the darkening and lisping that de-essing can cause.
- Solo: lets you listen to just the band being cut, to find the problem frequencies.

When to use it
A simple, cheap de-esser. For a more detailed tool with a spectral display and linear-phase filtering, see UA's Sonnox Oxford SuprEsser DS. Suits vocals in any genre, and hats or overheads that sound too sharp.
