What it does
Two API 500-series equalizers in one bundle: the 550A and the 560.
- 550A: three overlapping parametric bands and a 50 Hz to 15 kHz band-pass filter, with peaking/shelving modes.
- 560: ten-band graphic EQ using API's Proportional Q, where bandwidth changes with the amount of boost or cut.
- Modeling: filter-amp distortion and clipping behaviour.
- Presets: from Ross Hogarth, Darrell Thorp and Vance Powell.

When to use it
Punchy, forward EQs for drums, guitars, vocals and bass when you want tone shaping with a bit of character. Less surgical than FabFilter Pro-Q 4; more like a classic console-style EQ where you make broad moves.
Where to buy
- Universal Audio: $149
