What it does
Podolski is u-he's free virtual analog synth, described by the developer as straightforward and CPU-efficient "with a few tricks up its sleeve".
- Sound engine: one oscillator with variable symmetry and glide, and a multimode filter (lowpass, bandpass, highpass) with drive and FM.
- Modulation: four envelope modes and two syncable LFOs.
- Performance: an arpeggiator combined with a 16-step sequencer.
- Effects and presets: stereo delay and chorus/flanger, 300+ factory presets, NKS-ready, MTS-ESP support.
It's free. The current version is 1.2.3.
When to use it
Podolski is a light, simple starter synth. It has less depth than ACE or Repro, but it costs nothing, is quick to programme and is easy on the CPU, so it's good for basic basses, leads and arpeggios.
- Best for: beginners, sketching ideas, and projects with many instruments running.
- Look elsewhere if: you need multiple oscillators or deep modulation; u-he's Hive 2 or Diva go much further.
