What it does
Theia is a simplified front end for Tracktion's Hyperion synth: it plays Hyperion's sound library through a small set of macros instead of the full modular editor. The developer describes it as "easy access to the mighty Hyperion synth", and its sounds are fully patch compatible with Hyperion.
- Factory library: 587 presets, close to 600, with custom per-patch backgrounds and a waveform preview of each sound.
- Browser: filter presets by instrument type, performance or emotion, sort by author, type or name, and mark favorites.
- Macros: a minimalist main page with automatable macro controls for quick changes to a patch.
- Sound Layers Editor: edit each layer of a preset on its own, with MIDI channel, transpose, key zones, pitch-bend range, voice allocation and arpeggiator settings.
- Random patches: a dice button generates new random patches.
- Expansions: four optional sound packs: Pick n Mix, AI Synth Dreams, Classic Synth Tones and Cinematic Landscapes.
Theia was designed and coded by Paul Carter (Wavesequencer), the developer behind Hyperion. KVR lists version 1.23. A 30-day unlimited trial is available. Buyers get a code for 50% off Hyperion, and Theia is included with every Hyperion license.

When to use it
Theia is the pick when you want Hyperion's sounds without learning a modular editor. Compared with full Hyperion it costs less and is much faster to browse, but you tweak macros and layers rather than building patches, and it comes with a 50% upgrade code if you want the engine later. It works much like Arturia's Analog Lab, as a preset player over a deeper synth. Next to Omnisphere 3 its library is far smaller and it has no sample-based content, but it costs a fraction of the price. Compared with Vital, which is free, it offers less sound design but more ready-made, emotion-tagged presets.
- Best for: quickly finding and tweaking pads, keys, leads and cinematic textures.
- Genres: cinematic, ambient, electronic and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to design sounds from scratch (full Hyperion or Vital), or need a huge, varied library (Omnisphere 3).
- Tip: buy Theia first and use the included 50% code if you later outgrow the macros; your Theia patches load in Hyperion unchanged.
