Lowtone by ToneBoosters

Lowtone is a ToneBoosters bass synthesizer that uses loudness-domain harmonic synthesis to keep bass level consistent across the keyboard.

It has three oscillators with over 30 waveforms, a noise source, a 20-type filter, effects and a randomizer that learns from your patches, for $39.74 (€35).

Best for: Bass, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Hip-Hop & Trap, Pop, R&B & Soul.

Keywords: basses, randomize, sound design, FM.

What it does

Lowtone is a synth built only for bass. ToneBoosters uses what it calls loudness-domain harmonic synthesis, adjusting individual harmonics so notes sound equally loud from low to high, for "production-ready bass sounds".

The current version is 2.1.8 (July 2026).

When to use it

Lowtone is the better pick when you want a cheap, dedicated bass synth whose notes stay even in level across the range. Compared with Future Audio Workshop SubLab XL it is synthesis-only, with no sample layers, but costs much less. Unlike Spectrasonics Trilian it doesn't do sampled electric or acoustic bass at all. Against all-round synths such as Serum 2 or Vital it has far fewer sound-design options, but its focused layout and loudness-domain oscillators get to a usable bass faster.
