What it does

Flowtones is ToneBoosters' virtual analog synth. It layers two parts, each with two analog-modelled VCOs, and lets you choose between vintage and modern circuit behaviour for the oscillators.

The current version is 2.1.8 (July 2026).

When to use it

Flowtones is a low-cost, general-purpose VA with a step sequencer, randomizer and good built-in effects, rather than a recreation of one classic instrument. Compared with u-he Diva it costs a fraction of the price, but it does not aim at Diva's component-level vintage modelling. Unlike Arturia's CS-80 V it is not tied to one synth's layout or sound. Next to Sylenth1 it adds a formant filter, a sequencer and more filter types for less money. Its tabbed, app-like interface splits users, so try it before buying.

What producers say

Users like the sound, formant filter and effects; the interface is the main point of disagreement.
