It adds multi-resonant filters, a beat-synced modulation editor and an envelope follower, for $21.57 (€19).
Best for: Keys & Synths, Drums, Bass, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Hip-Hop & Trap, Ambient & Cinematic.
Keywords: synths, tempo-synced, 70s, 80s, 90s, bass, drums, parallel processing, undo/redo, warm, A/B compare, analog-sounding, circuit-modelled, mixing, resizable UI, rhythmic, samples & loops, sound design, visual feedback.
What it does
Dual VCF pairs two non-linear filters modeled on analog equipment, including synthesizers. ToneBoosters promises "that sought after sound of the 70s, 80s and 90s".
- 68 filter models: analog-style low-pass, high-pass and band-pass filters, including multi-resonant types.
- Routing: run the two filters in parallel or in series.
- Modulation: a beat-synced modulation editor, LFOs with user-drawn shapes and an envelope follower to move filter parameters.
- Pass-through mode: run audio through the circuit model without filtering, just to add analog color.
- Display and channels: real-time view of the filter response; up to 16 channels for Atmos, Ambisonics and 360 formats, at up to 384 kHz.
- Workflow: resizable UI with color themes, undo/redo, A/B switching and preset management.

When to use it
Dual VCF is a cheap way to get warm, analog-style filtering with two filters and tempo-synced movement. Compared with FabFilter Volcano 3, it has more filter models but much simpler modulation, and users on the Loopy Pro forum found Volcano's filter modeling and interface better. Unlike Soundtoys FilterFreak, it adds a second filter with serial or parallel routing and costs a fraction of the price. Compared with Arturia Filter MS-20, it covers many filter flavors rather than one classic circuit.
- Best for: filter sweeps on synths and drum loops, resonant bass shaping, rhythmic filter movement, and adding analog color in pass-through mode.
- Genres: electronic, hip-hop, ambient.
- Look elsewhere if: you want deep modulation for sound design (Volcano 3) or one faithful classic filter (Arturia Filter MS-20).
What producers say
Seen as excellent value, though users who own FabFilter's filter prefer it for modulation and sound.
- Gearnews (2020) called it "quite possibly the best analog filter plug-in you can buy" for the money.
- Loopy Pro forum users comparing it with Volcano 3 recommended Dual VCF for a warm analog filter on a budget, but said Volcano has "vastly superior modulation capabilities" and better filter modeling.
