BitJuggler by ToneBoosters

BitJuggler is a ToneBoosters plugin for recreating the flaws of old digital audio: bit crushing, resampling and codec artifacts.

It adds a beat-synced LFO for moving effects and costs $39.74 (€35).

Best for: Drums, Keys & Synths, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Hip-Hop & Trap, Lo-Fi.

Keywords: lo-fi, tempo-synced, bitcrush, drums, heavy, sound design, vocals, dialogue, sample-rate reduction, synths, undo/redo, visual feedback, 90s, A/B compare, broadcast, crunchy, digital classic, glitchy, mixing, resizable UI, single-band, surgical, vintage, wide.

What it does

BitJuggler is a bit crusher and codec simulator. ToneBoosters calls it "the ultimate digititus creator": it recreates the flaws of vintage digital gear, from Commodore-era chips and early samplers to 1990s lossy codecs.

When to use it

BitJuggler is the pick when you want digital damage beyond plain bit and sample-rate reduction. Compared with D16's Decimort 2, which concentrates on the warm character of classic hardware samplers, it adds MP3/AAC-style codec noise, a GSM phone codec and a tempo-synced LFO. Unlike iZotope Trash or FabFilter Saturn 2, it is not a general distortion tool; it does one family of lo-fi digital effects in depth, at a much lower price. Its 16-channel support also makes it one of the few bit crushers usable on Atmos or Ambisonics beds.

What producers say

Coverage at launch saw it as an unusually feature-rich, inexpensive bit crusher.
