What it does
TM700 V3 is a tape machine plugin built with Tone Empire's Neural Component Modeling. It is trained on what the developer calls "a legendary American 2-track, quarter-inch tape machine" running SM9 tape.
- Drive: pushes the input into tape saturation and tape compression.
- Speed: selects the tape transport speed.
- Comp: tape-style dynamics that soften transients.
- Wow and Flutter: transport movement, from a stable machine to a worn, wobbling one.
- Hiss and Dropouts: tape noise and tape-defect effects for lo-fi textures.
- Tone and width: a two-band parametric EQ and a spatial width control on the advanced panel.
- Presets: 126 factory presets, organised by source (bass, drums, mix, lo-fi) and by intent.
It comes with free updates for life. A 15-day full-version trial with no feature limits is available.

When to use it
TM700 V3 covers two jobs in one plugin: clean mix-bus tape and degraded lo-fi tape. Compared with UA's Ampex ATR-102, it is a neural capture of one machine rather than a detailed model with tape and calibration choices, but it adds hiss, dropouts and heavy wow and flutter. It is more focused on real tape behaviour than RC-20 Retro Color, which offers more kinds of noise and degradation, and more of a full tape machine than Baby Audio's TAIP, which is a simpler AI tape saturator. It sits between TAIP and the ATR-102 in price.
- Best for: tape glue on mixes and drum buses, softening digital sources, and lo-fi wobble on any track.
- Genres: general purpose, including lo-fi, hip-hop and indie.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to choose between several machines or tape formulas; the Ampex ATR-102 or a multi-machine tape plugin gives more choice.
