What it does
Neural Q V2 captures the Lo and Hi bands of a German console EQ, plus a transformer-driven preamp. Tone Empire trained recurrent neural networks on real music, and says the networks "learned the hardware, not a schematic".
- Lo and Hi bands: plus or minus 15 dB each, with curves captured from the original German equalizer.
- Source hardware: Bedroom Producers Blog reported that the first Neural Q was based on the Hi and Lo bands of the Siemens W295b.
- Triple drive: Clean for transparent bus warmth, Medium for balanced harmonics and Dirty for an aggressive edge, based on a Cinemag transformer capture.
- Independent switching: the EQ and the drive switch in and out separately, so you can use either one alone.
- Presets: organised by source: drums, guitar and bass, keys, vocals and mix.
Tone Empire suggests running it first in the chain for console colour with little tweaking. Updates are free, and a 15-day full-version trial with no feature limits is available.

When to use it
Neural Q V2 is one of the simplest EQs on the site: two bands and a drive stage. Compared with UA's Pultec Passive EQ Collection, it has no boost-and-cut trick on one band and no mid section, but it adds three preamp drive modes and costs less. It is far less flexible than Mäag Audio EQ4, though both are aimed at broad tone and top-end sheen rather than precise moves. Next to Tone Empire's own Black Q V3, it is cheaper and simpler, with two bands instead of four.
- Best for: quick low and high shaping with console colour, early in the chain on drums, bass, keys, vocals or the mix bus.
- Genres: general purpose.
- Look elsewhere if: you need mid bands or precise cuts; Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova suits that better.
