What it does
Whisper of Loong is billed as "The deepest sampled ancient Chinese Dizi in the world." The dizi's bulrush membrane gives it a clear, bright tone, and the library aims to capture its expressive playing, from rapid finger-popping to tongue flutter and airflow vibrato.
- Samples: 1,745 samples at 44.1 kHz/24-bit.
- Ten microphones: recorded with 10 mics and mixed down to adjustable Yin, Yang and far stereo channels.
- Articulations: mordent, finger popping, trill, flutter, vibrato, staccato and gliss, controllable by MIDI CC.
- Legato and gliss: two-speed legato plus the dizi's popping legato, and three gliss speeds; vibrato uses an LFO engine built from real samples.
- Effects: compressor, EQ, chorus, ping-pong delay and convolution reverb with impulses from Chinese historical sites, plus a pattern library.
It is a plugin, not a Kontakt library.

When to use it
Whisper of Loong is a specialist library for one Chinese wind instrument. Unlike broad orchestral packages on this site such as Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Core and EastWest Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, which cover Western flutes and woodwinds, it captures the dizi's membrane buzz and folk ornaments. Pick Whisper of Loong when a score or track needs an authentic dizi lead.
- Best for: Chinese-flavored melodies in film, game and TV scores, and world-music productions.
- Genres: cinematic, ambient, folk and world.
- Look elsewhere if: you need Western flutes or a full orchestra; an orchestral library suits that better.
- Standout: dizi-specific articulations such as finger popping and popping legato, recorded with 10 mics.
