What it does
Lost Soul is a virtual Chinese xiao from the developer's Chinese Traditional series. It samples the Dongxiao, the most common variant, with 1,868 samples at 44.1 kHz/24-bit.
- Adjustable sound field: recorded with five microphones and mixed down to four channels (Yin, Yang and far stereo) whose levels you can balance.
- Performances: attacks, mordents, trills, flutter, vibrato, staccato and glissando, with CC-controlled expression and gliss at adjustable speed.
- Legato: transitions recorded at three speeds, including regular, 'popping' and 'wuxia-style' legato, joined with a spectrum-fusion technique instead of plain crossfades.
- Effects and patterns: convolution reverbs recorded at places such as the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army site, a compressor/EQ/chorus/ping-pong rack from Heavier7Strings, and a MIDI pattern library.

When to use it
Lost Soul fills a gap left by orchestral libraries on the site, such as Spitfire's BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover and EastWest's Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, which cover Western flutes and woodwinds but not Chinese bamboo flutes. It offers a single, deeply sampled xiao and its idiomatic techniques, without needing Kontakt.
