Triplex Snapper is an FM synth for snares, wood blocks, metal plates, hi-hats and crashes.

What it does
Triplex Snapper is a percussion synth for "snare drums, wooden blocks, metal plates, hihats, crashes and all the in-betweens". It uses the "crunchy, yet punchy" retro FM engine of Triplex Classic and Triplex Kicker, with six macros that morph between drum materials.
- Surface: sets the stiffness of the material being struck, which moves the tone between drum, wood and metal characters.
- Detune: tunes a second drumhead or cymbal against the fundamental for more complex, metallic tones.
- Blend: mixes between the pure drumhead sound and drum wire (snare) or cymbal sounds.
- Envelope: attack, a combined decay/release control and a sustain level shape each hit.
- LFO: lets you "bend the drum in impossible ways", for pitch sweeps and moving tones.
- FM engine: the shared Triplex engine, three operators with up to eight voices.

When to use it
Triplex Snapper is the Triplex drum synth for everything above the kick: snares, hats, blocks and cymbals. Compared with XO, Battery 4 or Nerve, which build kits from samples, it synthesises each hit, so you can morph a snare into a metal plate with one macro, but it will never sound like a real acoustic kit. Its six macros make it quicker to use than programming percussion in a general synth such as Phase Plant, though with fewer layers. One sound plays per instance, and it has no sequencer or kit view.
- Best for: synthetic snares, hats, wood blocks and metallic percussion with an FM sound.
- Genres: electronic, techno, IDM, experimental and hip-hop.
- Look elsewhere if: you need realistic acoustic drums or a full kit with patterns; XO or Battery 4 fit better.
What producers say
There are no desktop reviews yet; iOS users of the same engine were enthusiastic about its sound-design range.
- Loopy Pro forum (iOS edition, 2023) users called it "great for experimental music too", found the interface easy and the controls "nicely tweakable", and praised the LFO.
- Criticisms: the same users wanted an LFO sync mode, a proper preset system and finer knob control, and noted it lacks the layering of fuller drum synths.
