Not rated yet

REPLIC8 renders reverse-delay risers that swell into a vocal word, which you drag from the plugin into the DAW as an audio clip.

It costs €29.99 (about $34.05) from TEMPL8, or less in a bundle with its sister plugin ANTICIP8.

Best for: Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Hip-Hop & Trap, R&B & Soul, Pop.

Keywords: reverse, vocals, low latency, rap vocals, zero-latency, chorus, classic, ping-pong, sound design.

What it does

REPLIC8 is TEMPL8's plugin for reverse-delay risers: the backwards echoes that build up into the start of a vocal word. It replaces the usual four manual steps (cut the syllable, reverse it, render a repeating delay, reverse it back) with a plugin that renders the run-up for you and hands it over as a clip to drag into the arrangement.

The interface on the product page shows version 1.1.1 with a demo mode; the page doesn't spell out the trial terms. REPLIC8 is sold alone, together with its sister plugin ANTICIP8 (a reverse-reverb riser) for less than the two separately, or with both ANTICIP8 and ADLIB RACK in a three-plugin bundle.

When to use it

REPLIC8 is a one-trick tool, and the trick is a reverse-delay riser in seconds instead of minutes. Unlike EchoBoy or Timeless 3, it is not a delay you leave running on a track: it renders a single clip from a word and gives it back to you to place by hand. That makes it far quicker than faking the effect with a reverse mode in a normal delay, such as Valhalla Delay's, because the echoes are already timed to end on the word. Compared with United Plugins Mirror, which makes reverse-style echoes in real time, REPLIC8 works offline, so there is no latency and no automation to set up, but every change means dragging out a new clip. For ordinary echoes and throws you still need a regular delay.
