ANTICIP8 renders reverse-reverb risers that swell into a vocal word, ready to drag from the plugin into the DAW as an audio clip.

It costs €29.99 (about $34.05) from TEMPL8, or less in a bundle with its sister plugin REPLIC8.

Best for: Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Hip-Hop & Trap, R&B & Soul, Pop.

Keywords: reverse, vocals, low latency, simple, single knob, tremolo, zero-latency, beginner-friendly, chorus, classic, haunting, minimal controls, rap vocals, sound design.

What it does

ANTICIP8 is TEMPL8's reverse-reverb riser for vocals: the ghostly swell of reverb that rises into a word before it is sung or rapped. Normally you cut the word, reverse it, render a reverb tail and reverse that back; ANTICIP8 does all of it inside the plugin and hands you the finished swell as a clip.

The interface on the product page shows version 3.1.1 with a demo mode; the page doesn't spell out the trial terms. ANTICIP8 is sold alone, together with its sister plugin REPLIC8 (a reverse-delay riser) for less than the two separately, or with both REPLIC8 and ADLIB RACK in a three-plugin bundle.

When to use it

ANTICIP8 is not a reverb for a send or a space for the mix; it is a shortcut for one effect, the reverse-reverb swell into a word. Unlike VintageVerb, Pro-R 2 or Blackhole, it has no decay, size or damping to set and doesn't run on the track at all: it renders a clip that you place in front of the vocal. VintageVerb's Attack control can push a reverb towards a reverse-style swell in real time, but it can't build a swell that ends exactly on the next word, which is what ANTICIP8 is for. Compared with reverse-reverb plugins that run as an insert on the track, such as Low End Candy's Preverb, it gives up live use for speed and zero latency: one knob and a drag. For anything beyond this one effect you still need a normal reverb.
