What it does

ADLIB RACK is an effect plugin from TEMPL8, the German producer brand behind mixing templates and vocal chains for rap and trap. It is built for one job: turning dry adlibs into finished ones. Instead of a rack of separate modules, you pick one of four tuned effect chains and move it with a single knob; the developer sums it up as "One knob · Four styles · Finished adlibs".

The current version is 1.0.5, and a free trial is offered from the product page, which also has before/after audio examples for each style. TEMPL8 sells it alone or in a three-plugin bundle with its vocal riser plugins ANTICIP8 and REPLIC8. TEMPL8 earlier sold a "Fall Back Rack" effect rack for FL Studio; ADLIB RACK's Fall Back style carries that name, but the plugin itself works in any DAW.

When to use it

ADLIB RACK is the pick when you want adlibs to sound finished fast without building a send-effect chain yourself. Compared with Nectar 4, it does far less: there is no full EQ, compressor, pitch correction or mix assistant, only throw effects (delays, reverbs, modulation and grit) voiced for adlibs and backing shouts. That narrow focus is the point: four styles and one knob make it quicker to reach a modern rap sound than setting up EchoBoy, a reverb and a chorus by hand. It is also not a corrective vocal tool like Pro-DS or Vocal Rider; it is meant for the adlib track itself, as a finishing effect. The trade-off is less control over each effect than separate plugins give, although Pro Settings opens up more than the front panel suggests.
