T-De-Breather reduces breaths in vocals and dialogue at zero latency, using a detector that combines signal analysis with a neural network.
It can cut breaths by a fixed amount or toward a target level, and costs $129.
Best for: Vocals. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: vocals, dialogue, low latency, zero-latency, AI/machine learning, podcast, undo/redo, gentle, lead vocals, metering, parallel processing, resizable UI, visual feedback.
What it does
T-De-Breather is Techivation's "zero-latency breath suppression plug-in for vocals and dialogue." A hybrid detector, which mixes conventional analysis with a recurrent neural network, picks out breaths regardless of their level and tells them apart from sibilance.
- Two modes: Gain mode reduces breaths by a fixed amount and keeps their natural dynamics; Target mode pulls each breath toward a set output level.
- Detection controls: Sensitivity and a Breath Boundary slider set what counts as a breath; Speed runs from fast, gate-like action to gentle attenuation.
- Sibilance control: a separate Sibilance control can soften sibilant sounds as well.
- Monitoring: a waveform display shows breaths, sibilance and suppression in real time, and a detection meter marks breath in gold and sibilance in blue.
- Diff and Mix: Diff mode plays only what is removed; Mix blends in the dry signal for parallel use.
- Workflow: output gain, an artifact-free internal on/off switch, undo/redo, tooltips and a scalable UI (80-150%).

When to use it
T-De-Breather is a dedicated breath tamer, and its zero latency means it can run on a live desk or in broadcast as well as on a recorded vocal. Pro-DS, Sibilance and Re-Esser target sibilance; T-De-Breather targets breaths, and its own sibilance control is a light extra rather than a full de-esser. Compared with Vocal Rider, which rides the whole vocal level, it only acts on the breaths. Compared with Nectar 4, a full vocal chain, it does one job, with dedicated detection controls and no added latency.
- Best for: podcasts, dialogue, voice-over and lead vocals with loud breaths, including live vocals.
- Genres: any style with exposed vocals; also spoken word.
- Look elsewhere if: you only need to remove a few breaths, where clip gain or a gate may be enough, or you mainly need de-essing, where Pro-DS is the better pick.
- Tip: for live use, Techivation suggests Gain mode with -4 to -8 dB of breath reduction, Speed around 30-40% and Sensitivity below 140%; switch to Target mode in noisy or reverberant rooms.
