M-Exciter by Techivation

M-Exciter is a spectral harmonic exciter that creates new high-frequency overtones to add brightness and presence.

A Softness control suppresses harshness, it has Warm, Airy and Clear modes, and it costs $90.

Best for: Vocals, Mix Bus, Mastering, Acoustic Instruments, Keys & Synths. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: enhancement, exciter, harmonic enhancer, spectral, bright, full mix, vocals, mastering, undo/redo, bus processing, mid/side, mix bus, built-in mix knob, mixing, oversampling, parallel processing, room mics, single-band, warm.

What it does

M-Exciter is Techivation's spectral harmonic exciter. Instead of boosting the treble that is already there, it analyses the audio and generates new overtones on top of it, with the stated aim to "add brightness and presence without harshness."

KVR lists version 1.0.1. A free trial is available.

When to use it

M-Exciter is a top-end tool rather than an all-round drive. Compared with Decapitator or Saturation Knob, which add harmonics and grit across the whole signal, it only adds overtones inside the band you set, so it brightens without thickening or colouring the low mids. It is cleaner and more targeted than RC-20 Retro Color, which is built for vintage character and wear, not polish. Against a plain high-shelf EQ, the difference is that it creates new upper harmonics and tames them dynamically with Softness, so dull sources gain air that an EQ boost can't find. Mix Assist and the three modes make it quick to set, but it has fewer tone-shaping options than a full multi-mode saturator like Saturn 2.
