What it does
TDR SlickEQ Mastering (SlickEQ M) is Tokyo Dawn Labs' EQ and stereo-image processor made "specifically for the audio mastering engineer." It is a separate product from the free TDR VOS SlickEQ and from SlickEQ GE. The EQ itself:
- Six parametric bands: run in a parallel EQ design, so each band can also shape stereo width and balance at its frequency.
- High- and low-pass filters: each with four slopes, which the developer describes as distinctly musical.
- Low-frequency mono filter: folds the bass to mono to keep the low end centred.
- Meta filter: one control set for brightness, hardness or the equal-loudness curve.
Around the EQ:
- Smart Operations: match the input spectrum against an external reference, detect and remove static resonances, set the high- and low-pass filters from the signal's bandwidth, and adjust overall width and panning.
- Stereo modes: SumDiff mode works like traditional M/S EQ, and bands can be set to Sum, Diff, Left or Right, with mixed-phase options for the width and balance filters.
- Processing modes: ECO for low CPU, LIVE for zero latency, and multirate processing (internal resampling) for the highest quality.
- Workflow: loudness-compensated auto gain, a real-time spectrum analyser that also shows width and balance against frequency, presets, undo/redo, A/B comparison and 100–150% UI scaling.
The current version is 2.1.2. It is also sold in the SlickEQ Superbundle with SlickEQ GE. The free demo has no time limit but blocks automatic recall. Updates are free, and all sales are final.

When to use it
SlickEQ Mastering is the better pick when the job is overall tonal balance and stereo shaping on a finished mix, not fixing single tracks. Compared with Pro-Q 4, it has far fewer bands and no dynamic EQ, but it adds per-band width and balance control, a bass mono filter and reference matching in a layout built for the stereo bus. Compared with the free TDR VOS SlickEQ, it doubles the band count and adds the stereo, matching and resonance tools that VOS SlickEQ lacks. Unlike TDR Nova, it cannot make a band react to level, so the two work well side by side. It is also cheaper than most dedicated mastering EQs.
- Best for: broad tone and stereo-image shaping on masters, stem masters and the mix bus, and tightening the low end with the mono filter.
- Genres: any; the mono filter is especially handy for bass-heavy music and vinyl cuts.
- Look elsewhere if: you need dynamic EQ or many surgical bands on single tracks; TDR Nova or Pro-Q 4 suit that better.
- Tip: the range control can be widened to ±16 dB when the default range is too small for a correction.
What producers say
Users who have reviewed it treat SlickEQ M as a top-tier mastering EQ, with high CPU use as the main trade-off.
- Gearspace user review: rated it 5 out of 5 for sound, ease of use, features and value, calling it "extremely flexible" with "superb audio fidelity."
- Praised: the per-band mid-side width controls, Smart Operations for matching and resonance removal, auto gain, and the low-frequency mono filter for vinyl work and extra centre punch.
- Criticisms: no dynamic EQ (the reviewer points to Nova GE for that) and fairly high CPU use, though acceptable for mastering.
