TDR Elliptical is a modern elliptical filter for analysing and controlling low-frequency stereo difference, with minimum and linear phase modes.
It can compensate for energy lost when lows go to mono, and costs €40 (about $45.42).
Best for: Mastering, Mix Bus, Bass. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: mastering, vinyl, bass, linear-phase, modern, built-in analyzer, full mix, bus processing, harmonic enhancer, metering, mix bus, built-in mix knob, mixing, resizable UI.
What it does
TDR Elliptical is "a modern take on the elliptical filter," the vinyl-mastering tool that keeps low frequencies in mono. Tokyo Dawn Labs aims to avoid the side effects of the classic approach while giving fine control of low-end stereo for mastering and mix placement.
- Stereo control: analyses and controls both stereo difference and stereo correlation, and can target either one.
- Phase and slope: minimum or linear phase, with a continuously variable slope.
- Compensation: Dynamic Bump, harmonic generators with even and odd modes, and Reflect (Haas delays), each with its own amount control and meter, plus a filtered energy factor scaling option.
- Analyser: a hardware-accelerated analyser for stereo difference and correlation down to DC, with a CRT-style effect that flags negative correlation.
- Monitoring and mix: a Listen button to hear the removed signal in mono, and a dry/wet control, in a resizable interface.
The current version is 1.2.1. The free demo has no time limit but blocks automatic recall. Updates are free.

When to use it
Elliptical is the better pick when you need to fold the low end to mono with control over how it happens. Compared with Ozone Imager, S1 Stereo Imager or Stereoizer, which widen or narrow the stereo image, it works only on low-frequency stereo difference, but adds phase and slope choices, correlation targeting and compensation for the lost width. The Listen button makes it easy to hear exactly what is being folded, which a simple width control does not offer. It suits mastering and vinyl preparation more than everyday widening.
- Best for: mono-ing bass in mastering and vinyl prep, and fixing out-of-phase low end in a mix.
- Genres: any; especially electronic and club music.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to widen sounds or shape the whole stereo field; Ozone Imager or S1 Stereo Imager are simpler for that.
