mvMeter2 is a free multivariable meter from TBProAudio with peak, RMS, EBU R128, VU and PPM modes.

What it does

mvMeter2 is a free "multivariable meter" that combines several broadcast and studio metering standards in one plugin, with a single or dual meter display. It is aimed at precise level checks and gain staging rather than loudness reports.

Meter modes: Peak, RMS, EBU R128, VU with classic analog ballistics, and PPM in BBC and EBU variants (including PPM IIa EBU).
Channels: stereo, left, right, mid and side metering, with linked or unlinked channels.
Reference and ballistics: an adjustable reference level in every mode, adjustable meter delay and hold, and an adjustable overload level with an LED mode.
Gain staging: a pre-gain control of ±36 dB with gain matching and a gain link, so you can set levels straight from the meter.
Display: five meter themes, instance labels, click-to-reset and GUI scaling up to 400%.
Efficiency: DAW-synced measurement, idle detection that cuts CPU use by about half when no audio plays, and GPU (OpenGL/Metal) and non-GPU builds.

When to use it

mvMeter2 is the pick for classic VU and PPM metering and gain staging, for free. Compared with Youlean Loudness Meter 2, it has no loudness history graph or export, but it covers VU, PPM and RMS with a configurable reference level. Next to bx_meter it skips correlation and balance displays and adds a pre-gain control for setting levels directly. It is lighter than TBProAudio's own dpMeter, which shows more detail.

Best for: VU-based gain staging into analog-modelled plugins, checking levels while recording, and broadcast-style PPM checks on tracks and buses.
Genres: any.
Look elsewhere if: you need loudness history and reports for delivery; Youlean Loudness Meter 2 or dpMeterXT3 do more.
Tip: one KVR user records in VU mode with 0 VU set to -18 dBFS for consistent gain staging.

Users like it as a flexible, configurable VU meter; the few complaints are about stability in specific setups.

KVR users rate it 4 out of 5 from 3 reviews, calling it a "very good VU meter" with configurable zero level, skins, presets and linked or unlinked channels.
Criticisms: one user had Cubase Pro 11 freeze on Windows 10 when opening it, and another recalled occasional wrong readings in the original mvMeter.
